HeartTrauma

HeartTrauma is a psychological injury that may be experienced after extremely distressing events such as severe injury, sexual violence or other threats to life. Symptoms of trauma may affect your ability to function normally in everyday life. For example, in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, you may experience debilitating symptoms, including flashbacks, panic attacks, low mood, insomnia or dissociation.

HeartChildhood trauma

Children are dependent on their caregivers for care, nurture and protection. When they experience violence, abuse or life-threatening events (or even watching someone experiencing them), this can lead to trauma. Children who grow up in adverse circumstances may find it confusing to decipher the boundary of what is permissible in interpersonal situations and have trust issues with people around them.

At Eastside, we use evidence-based trauma-informed therapies such as trauma-focused CBT or EMDR to attend to your symptoms. Most of all, we focus on developing and strengthening an internal sense of safety by providing a peaceful, nurturing environment.

For more information on EMDR, please see below:

HeartFirst responders – helping the helpers
We are passionate about working with the Police officers, firefighters, ambulance personnel, doctors, and nurses who dedicate their lives to supporting and saving others.

When you work in emergency services, you are routinely exposed to traumatic accidents, violence and altercations.
-it’s completely normal to be shocked or impacted by trauma.
-each individual reacts differently to different kinds of traumatic experiences.
-at times, it may take some time to process the emotions.

It is not uncommon to endure debilitating symptoms for months due to the expectation that you have to ‘tough it out’ as it is part of the job.

It is often helpful to raise your self-awareness about the changes or symptoms you are experiencing. If you suspect something is wrong, please seek help from your GP or make an enquiry via Contact.
